Old Tom

angry-wet-cat-6

Last night was the coldest ever in Ohio . . . -8 with a stiff wind . . . old Tom was scratching on the door, he wants in.

‘Oh no, poor cat is going to freeze’. Big hearted me goes out on the porch to rescue Tom and let him spend the night in the warm laundry room . . . “Here kitty, kitty.” He comes over, rubs on my leg, I bend, pet, snatch up cat and head back inside.

Now Tom has never been in a house. He totally freaks out and starts yowling and scratching his way up my chest towards my face . . . I drop him . . . next thing I know Tom leaps on the table beneath the window, then tries to climb the drapes . . . . “I WANT OUT OF HERE!”

Unable to make it out, he jumps back to the floor and heads into the library on a dead run. First he skids into and then leaps upon another table . . . bye, bye good lamp! He dives off yowling like a dying cow and flies back to the main room, across the couch top and back to the window. This time he succeeds in climbing the drapes like Sylvestor Stallone in the movie ‘Cliffhanger” . . . until he, as well as the drapes come crashing to the floor, that is.

During this mad dash to destroy, Tom is being chased by two other cats, a Jack Russell terrier and a really excited pit bull puppy.

Finally we all trap poor Tom and I throw his crazy ass back outside.

Thanking God that my wife is in NC visiting her brother I pour myself a double shot of Old Crow and sit in the Lazy Boy staring at the chaotic mess before me. . . . while in the back ground Tom begins to piss and moan about how cold it is on the porch . . .

The Abomination Of Desolation

obomination

In the Christian bible there is reference in the book of Daniel to the – abomination of desolation –  I know the interpretation most biblical scholars have come up with, but in my opinion if one is to study the bible or the Tao Te Ching or any other spiritual text he must interpret what he is reading for himself. The holy books only work for people who have understanding and that means we must interpret it ourselves and apply what we’ve learned to ourselves. As we grow and mature our understanding grows also, and our interpretation changes. Only those who have locked themselves into religious dogma and church hierarchy remain, from cradle to grave, locked in obedience to a priestly order and their rule of law.

This is fine of course, but if you are a seeker of truth and knowledge and wisdom, you must break free from the matrix of religion and head out on your own. The pathway is not marked and will only open before you as you approach the dead end.

My interpretation of -the abomination of desolation- goes something like this. . . . In the beginning of God’s creation He set man upon the earth to be steward over all His stuff . . . He did not GIVE us His stuff  any more than I would give the keys of my truck to a five year old. He made us steward over it in the hopes of our future maturation. (more…)

There’s No Going Back . . .

going back

We hear a lot these days about going back in time to our past greatness, back to that quieter and gentler era when everybody who wanted to, could get a decent job promising fully paid health benefits and a pension upon retirement. Back to the days of Ozzie and Harriet and John Wayne and American heroism . . . it ain’t gonna happen folks. I wish we could do that, but we can’t. It is impossible. We have opened the floodgates to hell and once opened there is no closing them. We cannot hold a meeting and beg forgiveness to the world community like Obama tried, nor will we be able to hardnose our way out of this mess like Trump thinks we can . . . the piper has played and he must be payed.

We as a nation cannot go back in time and start over. We have gone too far, made too many mistakes, and have too many enemies. Our enemies have found our soft underbelly and are now biding their time like wolves following a herd of caribou. In the real world we are slowly being culled out by those many nations who have lost all respect for us. (more…)

I Saw A UFO!

Ocean Isle Beach North Carolina, July 2016:

ufo

During our summer vacation my daughter and I were star gazing on the beach one evening when close to the right side of the moon there popped into view three large bright orange orbs. They sat there side by side for a few moments, then one blinked out . . . then another . . . then the last one disappeared, only to reappear a few moments later to begin discharging (maybe 20) much smaller, bright starry like objects from it’s base.  These guys were dancing around, up and down, until as if on que they gathered in a loose formation and headed south traveling along the coastline.

The following night I took my camera with me and stared into the star studded sky until once again, in a flash two of the larger craft appeared and slowly drifted for a moment before zipping south. When I say zipping, I mean they took off faster than a rocket.

A few minutes later, high above my head and coming from the north a group of (what I considered to be) military jets were heading strong in the same direction as the orbs. The following night I saw a couple more of the smaller ones appear and blink away quite fast, later on that night a friend saw another one.

Upon telling my experiences to the rest of the family, I received such a ho hum attitude that I just quit talking about it. Even though, (to all you brain dead people out there) these sightings that so many of us are witnessing have to be a complete game changer that reaches into the highest levels of known religion, politics, philosophy, and consciousness.

Maybe it’s just too scary for many folks to think about. Maybe they are content in the status quo and don’t want to rock their boat. I don’t know, but I don’t think it’s so scary as it is interesting, and maybe, just maybe these people, whoever they are, may be willing to teach us something that will save us from destroying ourselves. . . . these star people may be our last hope.

Dynamic Equilibrium

dynamic equilibrium

We are addicted to fossil fuel. In the boardrooms of big oil and coal everything else comes second to their profit margin. This is a fact few can deny. I honestly believe these corporations would willingly lay waste to the entire planet in order to suck the last drop of oil from her. . . just like an addict will lay his body to waste for that final fix.

In today’s world, we are encompassed by a vast amount of negativity. So much so that it is difficult for one to keep his head above water, BUT there are also great things in the works. Intelligent ideas containing the power to make a difference for all of us are on the rise.

It’s only a matter of time until the fossil fuel industry runs out of product. Everybody knows this but them, and yet . . . the beat goes on.

How do these ‘drill baby drill’ guys answer the cry from those of us concerned for the well-being of our planet? They say, “you guys are tree hugging wacko’s . . . everything’s fine, this depletion stuff is all just liberal inspired bullshit . . . after all God gave us this earth to subdue, right?”

On and on the argument goes. Remember how long it took the cigarette corporations to even hint that smoking may be bad for your health? The frackers have far more rocks to hide under than the tobacco boys ever did.

The question for today is, “How can we continue this course of existing on fossil fuels and NOT at some date in the near future run out of product? We can’t, it is physically impossible regardless of how the fossil fuel industries promote their agenda.

BUT there is another side to the story. One that has THINKING people working hard to find a way towards putting this cess pool of greed out of business and yet maintain our (pared down, but pleasing) lifestyle. People like the guy who made this video.

I can’t say I agree with all of it, but I doubt that is necessary. The foundation he is creating is sure to be the one taken after this current system falls apart . . . at least I hope so.

If we fail as a people to adapt and the planet drives us to extinction because of our ignorance, if it takes our planet a zillion years to recoup from our abuse. I hope next time we get it right . . . and if we do I believe it will take place somewhat along these lines . . .

Free Thought

thought

First of all before I even start this series I need to tell you guys what free thinking means to me or else we will get lost in interpretation. What I am reading as I research this subject is that atheism is somehow connected to free thought. That you must  be a free thinker in order to not believe in something like god.

That premise is ridiculous. In my opinion, atheism is just another form that a true believer takes as he tries to fit himself into someone else’s box. I am an Atheist . . . I am a born again Christian . . . I am (whatever) is merely lining yourself up to the belief system of a larger crowd. One that believes exactly as you do. One that gives you the security to prognosticate upon your deep and heavy beliefs. It’s like comparing chicken noodle to vegetable soup. Atheism is not the home of a free mind, it is just another resting place for a wandering soul.

So what IS a free thinker?

A free thinker is a person having as few as possible boundaries surrounding his thought patterns. Someone who is open to anything, willing to think upon it and to logically come up with an idea he feels comfortable in, even if he stands alone in the midst of laughter and derision. He is willing to acknowledge social rules as well as moral obligations, but he is not a blind follower of anybody – president, pastor, teacher or parent. (more…)

The Champ . . .

ali

Ali was the champ in every way. He was an awesome fighter, one of my favorites. He was a comedian, no one could match his loud mouthed bravado. He was one of the great entertainers of his time and in spite of all this he managed to be a kind and humble man.

Even after thirty some years of suffering with Parkinson’s Disease he remained so. He taught the world so many things while for years, he could hardly speak a word. He was a man . . . something the world these days is sadly much in need of, a man of integrity who was not afraid to speak out, a man who still knew how to think on his own, and act on his own. I have nothing but respect for the champ Muhammad Ali aka Cassius Clay.

Thinking about Ali after his death the other day I had many places to go. His great and entertaining fights mostly, but the one thing that jumps out at me was his experience with the draft board of this country, that during the time of rich kid deferments they somehow saw fit to draft the champion boxer of the world. I believe firstly it was a racist move and I believe secondly they wanted to use him and his fame for promotion of some sort . . . or maybe to entertain Westmoreland and his band of perfumed princes in Saigon. Who knows?

Following is a quote that I will take to the grave with me. Not so much because Ali defied the draft board, hell kids were piling across the borders in droves in those days. 1967 was not a good year for the youth of this country. You either went to Vietnam, daddy bought you out with deferments, or you ran away. Ali thought about it, made up his mind and acted, not out of fear for there is no way he would have ever done time in the jungle. He was slotted for entertainment . . . guaranteed. People thinking he was a coward are just fools.

Quote Mohammed Ali 1967:

Why should they ask me to put on a uniform and go 10,000 miles from home and drop bombs and bullets on brown people in Vietnam while so-called Negro people in Louisville are treated like dogs and denied simple human rights? No, I’m not going 10,000 miles from home to help murder and burn another poor nation simply to continue the domination of white slave masters of the darker people the world over. This is the day when such evils must come to an end. I have been warned that to take such a stand would cost me millions of dollars. But I have said it once and I will say it again. The real enemy of my people is here. I will not disgrace my religion, my people, or myself by becoming a tool to enslave those who are fighting for their own justice, freedom, and equality. If I thought the war was going to bring freedom and equality to 22 million of my people they wouldn’t have to draft me, I’d join tomorrow. I have nothing to lose by standing up for my beliefs. So I’ll go to jail, so what? We’ve been in jail for 400 years.

To Ali . . . (a long and meaningful bow)

Relationships

rrelationships

In my life I have had many friends of both sexes . . . from my childhood in the housing project, to the military, to the hippy days, to my many years of wandering and wondering, to today where I have few friends at all.

Today I am an old man who spends most of his time alone. If it weren’t for my wife there would be little contact with humanity at all . . . sad I suppose to some, but not so sad to me. People fear getting old and irrelevant like they fear the plague. But I have to say, “Man, I am digging it.” Today I feel more in touch, more connected to the circle of life than ever before.

My friends are still with me, as are my few enemies, but they now live in memory and dreams of past experience . . . and love? . . . well, when love was an emotional experience for me I gave or withheld it at will. It wasn’t until lately, when I found myself alone, that I began to see and to realize that love is not only an emotion, but it is also a state of being. The deeper experience hides from view when constantly being focused by emotion, and only comes to life when one steps back into quiet reflection and gives it the freedom it needs to spread across the entire spectrum of life. This view is a very beautiful place, but can only be experienced out of earshot of the constant babbling of men . . .

And hey, what the hell, if I still need a little bit of emotion I have four dogs, two cats, a wonderful wife, a healthy life, and a whole woods full of critters and creatures surrounding me to bestow my love upon.

So sometime when you’re driving by the old man sitting all alone on his porch staring off into oblivion and you begin to feel sorry for him . . . don’t . . . some of us have actually found what we have been mad dashing across the planet all those years looking for.

Independance Day

July 4 2015:  july4

Today is July 4 – Independence Day  – A holiday time for fireworks, hot dogs and family fun. A day to celebrate our country’s freedom and independence from England . . . but today, in the real world, that bell has a decidedly hollow ring to it. I know there are quite a few who believe that we are still free and independent, and in a way I feel envious of them, but in my opinion the evidence on the ground proves otherwise.

Of course we all know freedom and independence must be balanced by the rule of law and varies from time to time in a nation’s evolution. Balance is necessary, or else we would have chaos in the streets, but since at least 911 I find the freedom bell no longer ringing quite as loud as it once did . . . and in my opinion, it’s out of balance and getting dimmer by the day.

I sometimes attempt to find out why, but in a country that lives on spin and downright lies it’s damn near impossible to know the real reason for anything anymore. Are we really so afraid of a ragtag group of terrorists to the point that we are willing to give up all the hard fought for freedoms that we once enjoyed in this country? Take a look around, free yourself from political correctness, party affiliation, and religious prejudice. Open your eyes. What do you see? (more…)

My Old Friends

myoldfriends

It seems I do more of it in the winter, but regardless, as I get older I spend a lot of time day dreaming. I usually wake up about 5 am, make coffee and, being retired and having no place to go, sit in my chair in the dark drinking my coffee and dreaming about the past. A rather pleasant time, I might add.

Now I have been to a lot of places and done a lot of things, but the things and places have become mere backdrops, places to hold the faces and memories of the many people I have known and the friends I have made over the last 72 years that I have lived on this planet.

As I begin to think on a place and time the faces are soon to follow. These faces pop into my mind like a worn out jack-in-the-box. Crank the handle and up pops Joey Sirgo or Gunner Thompson, or Tommy One Nut, Pissball Pete or just plain Joe . . . . . (It’s amazing how many of these guys have slang names and how often that’s the only one I can remember.) (more…)
