How many times have you read “no religion or politics” when looking at the membership rules in a web forum? I mean, you can talk about lots of other things, but two of the most important issues facing us in this life is considered taboo? . . . What’s up with that? Any talk concerning our spiritual well being . . . taboo. Any talk concerning the governing of our physical well being . . . taboo. These two categories are still, even in this supposedly enlightened country, considered unsafe because they always end up causing a heated argument . . . why? (more…)
In Western Christian belief a baby is born in sin. Right off the bat the child has two strikes against him and the only hope for the kid is that before he strikes out and ends up in hell he finds personal salvation. In the Eastern Zen Buddhist belief a baby is born pure and learns to be evil because of the hellishness in the world. His salvation comes from self realization.
I follow the Eastern Way. I believe that in the right circumstances all people are capable of committing heroic deeds, but in the wrong circumstances all people are quite capable of propagating all forms of evil upon themselves as well as their fellows.
Take war for instance. War is evil personified and yet men swarm to it like beetles skittering to a dog turd. Take an incident like 911 when the towers went down. We would have a hard time counting the heroics that took place that day as strangers died trying to save other strangers while a whole country mourned openly. (more…)
What do representatives of the largest corporations and governments in the world talk about when they sit around the conference table? Well, from what I’ve been hearing, these groups that operate outside the boundary of public scrutiny are actually the guys who create national and foreign policy for the country. All those guys you see daily on TV? . . . including the president himself? . . . are merely front men.
Hillary Clinton, during a recent interview, was saying how happy she was to hear that the Council On Foreign Relations (CFR) had just opened a Washington office . . . “Now I won’t have to go to New York to find out what I am supposed to do.” she said and laughed.
Dumb me, here I thought the president was the guy who told her what to do. But then, if you think about it, he is only in office eight years max while these people have been around since the sixties. . .
Who are they? Check out their website and you’ll find a long ‘whose who’ list of the rich, famous, and powerful members that you will recognize. These guys operate quietly in the shadows, but don’t hide from the fact that they do so. They are the shadow government. (more…)
First of all before I even start this series I need to tell you guys what free thinking means to me or else we will get lost in interpretation. What I am reading as I research this subject is that atheism is somehow connected to free thought. That you must be a free thinker in order to not believe in something like god.
That premise is ridiculous. In my opinion, atheism is just another form that a true believer takes as he tries to fit himself into someone else’s box. I am an Atheist . . . I am a born again Christian . . . I am (whatever) is merely lining yourself up to the belief system of a larger crowd. One that believes exactly as you do. One that gives you the security to prognosticate upon your deep and heavy beliefs. It’s like comparing chicken noodle to vegetable soup. Atheism is not the home of a free mind, it is just another resting place for a wandering soul.
So what IS a free thinker?
A free thinker is a person having as few as possible boundaries surrounding his thought patterns. Someone who is open to anything, willing to think upon it and to logically come up with an idea he feels comfortable in, even if he stands alone in the midst of laughter and derision. He is willing to acknowledge social rules as well as moral obligations, but he is not a blind follower of anybody – president, pastor, teacher or parent. (more…)
July 4 2015:
Today is July 4 – Independence Day – A holiday time for fireworks, hot dogs and family fun. A day to celebrate our country’s freedom and independence from England . . . but today, in the real world, that bell has a decidedly hollow ring to it. I know there are quite a few who believe that we are still free and independent, and in a way I feel envious of them, but in my opinion the evidence on the ground proves otherwise.
Of course we all know freedom and independence must be balanced by the rule of law and varies from time to time in a nation’s evolution. Balance is necessary, or else we would have chaos in the streets, but since at least 911 I find the freedom bell no longer ringing quite as loud as it once did . . . and in my opinion, it’s out of balance and getting dimmer by the day.
I sometimes attempt to find out why, but in a country that lives on spin and downright lies it’s damn near impossible to know the real reason for anything anymore. Are we really so afraid of a ragtag group of terrorists to the point that we are willing to give up all the hard fought for freedoms that we once enjoyed in this country? Take a look around, free yourself from political correctness, party affiliation, and religious prejudice. Open your eyes. What do you see? (more…)
There are a few things that all men, rich or poor, black or white, aborigine or modern, have in common. They all have the mental capacity to dream . to imagine . to perceive . to project . and to promote all that dreaming as reality. That’s why we have problems with each other, we all think OUR version of reality is the one true reality. The others? . . . well they are dreamers.
Another thing we all have in common is the fact the we are locked into a universal system that demands movement. Nothing stands still, everything is either growing or decaying. Dreams without action will not work. We can imagine and hope and project and perceive all we want, but without action the fruits of idleness will only create decay and criminality.
We want something free? . . . nothing is free! Anything freely given without the need for hard work is probably going to either be a false religion or a diseased seed, if not immediately, then soon. High flying words are just that . . . in order to land they must be coaxed to the ground and watered and fed daily. That means in order to bear the fruit of your dreams YOU must work for your reality to become anything more than a shell of empty promises emanated from a Pied Piper leader looking to walk you over the cliff. (I could go on a huge rant here about American politics and religion but I will save you the agony) (more…)
In the US we like to classify things into groups, especially people. People come in all shapes and sizes and backgrounds and belief systems, and each group has a classification.
If you are a well fed white conservative you will have many things in common with all the other well fed white conservative Americans.
If you are a liberal you won’t have that much in common with your conservative neighbor. Of course if the two of you are different races you may have even less in common . . . and the beat goes on . . . until you reach the point where you have little in common with anybody save the man in your mirror.
I believe in peace . . . I believe in harmony . . . I believe in rights for all people . . . I believe in love, and honor, sharing and empathy, . . . I believe in kindness . . . I believe in the constitution of this ‘land of the free and home of the brave’ country . . . but alas, I also believe in karma.
We have killed too many people, invaded and disrupted too many countries, looted their natural resources and used them to heap power and wealth upon ourselves, to even think we can now, after all these years, stand down, apologize, and it will all go away. It won’t. We have created the pathway to our own destruction just like every other empire that has risen, reigned, retired and collapsed on this planet.
Our future is set. We either stay badass of the world or we will be eaten by one or more of our current enemies. (more…)
On the football field everyone who plays the game knows the hardest route to the goal post is right up the middle. It’s also the fastest way because it’s the shortest distance. Once you break free . . . zoom you’re on your way to a touch down.
Now if you were to take a good look at the game of politics these days and play football like we play politics no one would ever get the ball out of the backfield. The only touchdowns anyone would see would be the imaginary ones you get at the beginning of the game by the bookies and sport casters. The political backfield would look more like a continues ‘end around’ from one side to the other with no one ever even getting enough yardage to earn another set of downs. The stands would soon empty when the fans realized that it would be more exciting to go home and watch Dr. Phil that sit and watch these goons continue to run themselves ragged in circles.
If someone were to ask me to tell them in one word what this country needed the most in order to get something accomplished I would say “balance” because everything I see around me in every direction is out of balance and also out of focus. From the core family to the media to this very planet we live on, we are seemingly drowning in division and most of it is created by us, not God, not the Conservatives nor the Liberals or even the terrorists . . . us. How come? Why are we doing this to ourselves? What does balance actually mean when it comes to living it anyway?
Well, on the one side we have the Rush Limbaughs and his company of true believers, on the other side we have the Michael Moore’s and his company of true believers. In the middle between the two, we have a huge void of emptiness as seemingly there is no longer a middle of the road. These guys are both bright, intelligent individuals, but somewhere along the way and for various reasons, they have fallen out of balance and sadly have taken their large following of sheeple with them.
People who can think for themselves and make a decision based upon their needs and their desires are in short supply these days. Rather then think through the decision making process themselves, the vast majority of our citizens have boughten into the lies, deceptions and half truths of their chosen political guru and have subsequently been drawn into their vortex of negativity.
Officials will say anything these days to get into office, but once in, soon thereafter they say nothing that doesn’t pass muster with the lobbyists and special interest groups that sent them there. So in a very basic way the government of the US is no longer a government of the people, it is merely a front for a mob composed of special interests, the military/industrial complex and their minions. There will never be any hope for balance in Congress so long as our elected officials cater to these groups.
Everybody on the right fears Obama and his ‘socialistic ‘ tendencies. Everybody on the left fears the conservatives and their tea party that is growing amongst us in leaps and bounds. The left hates the right, sees them all as idiots. The right hates the left, sees them all as idiots. While in the center, at the balance point there is a strong, resounding silence. We’ve all been had by this diversion that keeps us at each others throats, until the ultimate changing of our form of government.
What I (and others) see coming down the pike is not a Socialist government, but a Fascist government being ushered in on the wings of acute nationalism.
An important part of belief in “manifest destiny” is “nationalism.” Nationalism holds that human civilization can be broken up into basic units called “nations,” which basically consist of people having a similar origin and unifying culture. Each nation, therefore, should have its own state: this is in fact the rule today. The United States is home to the American nation, Russia is home to the Russian nation, and so on. Theoretically, at least.
Nationalism claims particular virtues for a given nation, and particular responsibilities. Rome believed it had a mission to civilize the world, Russia believed it had a mission to civilize the world, as did the Soviet Union, and as does the United States, at least sometimes. I would say that nationalism is basically a neutral concept: nationalistic arguments have been used to start countless wars, but they have also held countries together.
Although in and of itself nationalism is seemingly impotent enough, once it becomes acute and is pushed to the forefront by an over the top emphasis on patriotism/military might/hero culture/ like that which seems today to be coming from the Right it could grow and ultimately turn Fascist as the Third Reich did.
We in this country have always felt that none of that stuff can happen here. Well of course it can. Was Germany in the thirties an ignorant third world country? No. Germany was a central European country every bit as intelligent and progressive as England and her neighbors. The Germans excelled in art, music, literature and were every bit as advanced scientifically as we ourselves. What drew her in was the very things that are drawing us in, nationalistic pride and the fact that they were broke. Hitler buoyed them up on the wings of rhetorical promise and the rest is history. And if we are foolish enough to follow her path we will also enjoy the fruits of her labors, ending up as she did in 1945.
We are nothing special, we have no contract or unction from God. We are not the chosen people like we seem to think. This manifest destiny stuff is pure elitist bullshit. We have only been around a couple hundred years for Christs sake. We’re just babies on the world scene. Babies whose leaders are selling out to the highest international bidder. They may as well put the U.S. up on E-Bay . . . ‘For sale The United States of America. . . . make us an off we can’t refuse.’
Shame on us for having argued and fought and laid about while this country has been cunningly whisked out from under our feet. And a lot of people don’t even know it yet. They are the new German Jew sitting in their houses waiting for things to get better. Praying for things to get better, while all the while on the other side of their drawn drapes the noose tightens.
If we are not already out of time we need to get back in shape. We need to find our balance . . . we need to drop the sound bites, fill the middle and become true patriots. Then we can use that new found balance to carry the ball without fumbling while we dodge and weave our way right up the middle, not stopping until we reach the goal line.
Can we do it? Of course we can. Will we do it? Not this way, not sitting around calling each other idiots and dopes while throwing stones across the great divide where the balance point once lived……. neba hachi GI.
I was recently asked in a forum of construction workers a question by a conservative guy who occasionally posts there after I made a derogatory remark concerning this country.
“Why do you hate America?”
I took the question to heart, thought about it, and following is my answer.
I was born at a time when every morning before class the entire assembly placed their right hand over their heart and recited the “Pledge of Allegiance.”
I was raised on John Wayne movies and heroism.
When I was old enough, I joined the military because I thought standing in the gap for this country was the highest of honors. I wanted to be the best because I believed I was a part of the best.
Living the experience eventually put a huge hole in the bubble that my elders had carefully blown up for me as I began to get a glimpse of reality.
Now in my old age there is little left of the kid who once stood proudly before the Stars and Stripes reciting: “I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands: one nation under God indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”
America, after conquering the American continent (and her aboriginal peoples) grew in leaps and bounds during the Industrial Revolution. She emerged from the ashes of WW2 victorious, head and shoulders above everybody.
No one can dispute that we had saved Europe from the German fascist nor Asia from the Emperor of Japan. No one can dispute the fact that we had created the greatest war machine and economy the world had ever seen.
We were at the helm of seemingly everything. We led in the sciences. We led in the arts. In industry. In giving. The world looked upon us in awe and a large majority of her went to bed at night dreaming of one day becoming a part of the melting pot.
We were at the cusp of greatness, our potential was unfathomable. If ever in the human experience there was a country who could change the flow of world history it was us. Our constitution promised it. Our religion promised it. Our military might promised it . . . What happened?
Like the allegory of the Prodigal Son in the Christian bible we squandered our inheritance on self-righteous greed becoming just another Empire with a beginning, a middle, and a soon to be ending, not much different than the Greeks and Romans before us. Me, Myself, and I became the law of the land as we slowly drown in our own waste.
Today every where I look I see decay. Oh, there are those who still strive for greatness and are willing to sacrifice to get it, but the flow of history is going against them. Most will die with the dream lying dormant in their hearts.
I hear the bravado. I hear the hero talk and the call to patriotic sacrifice. But giving your life for your country these days has a decidedly hollow ring to it.
Since the glory days of WW2 when have our children sacrificed their lives for a worthy cause? Korea? Vietnam? Iraq? Afghanistan? What good has any of these deaths accomplished? Who has benefited from them? Simple. Follow the money and see who’s getting rich.
I guess to answer the initial question, “Why do I hate America?” I gotta say, “ Well, I once loved her. I felt married to her. I laid my life on the line for her. I lived with her and partook of her many blessings. Then one day, when I least expected it, she decided to go out and fuck my best friend. My bubble burst and I found out she had been nothing but a whore all along. Whores can change their way, but never if they continue to justify their occupation.
So do I hate the dream? No. Do I hate what we’ve done to it? Yes. I am perhaps an embittered old man, I suppose…….but we had such an opportunity . .. we actually could have lived up to the PR.
We weren’t just contenders, we were the champs……..damn it!
